The City of Joy, Kolkata, has become a city of despair when it comes to air quality. As I step out of my home, I'm greeted by a thick haze that refuses to lift.

The current AQI (Air Quality Index) is a staggering 400+, a number that's become all too familiar for us Kolkata residents.

But what's behind this toxic air? The reasons are many - vehicle emissions, industrial pollution, construction activities, and crop burning in nearby areas. It's a deadly cocktail that's choking our city.

As I walk through the streets, I see people of all ages covering their faces with masks, a futile attempt to filter out the poisonous air. Children, the elderly, and those with respiratory issues are the most vulnerable. It's heartbreaking to see the city's iconic landmarks shrouded in smog.

But there's hope. We can make a difference. We must adopt sustainable practices - use public transport, carpool, or cycle. Let's reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and switch to cleaner energy sources. Plant more trees, support green initiatives, and demand policy changes from our leaders.

Together, we can reclaim our city's air. Let's join hands to create a healthier, more sustainable Kolkata. The time to act is now.
